Management effectiveness in PNG’s protected areas

IN 2016-2017 our small team (Fiona, Ann and Greg) in conjunction with staff from PNG’s Conservation and Environment Protection Agency conducted an evaluation of all the protected areas in the country. We worked for SPREP (Secretariat of the Pactific Regional Environment Council) and UNDP, with funding from the Global Environment Fund. Whew enough acronyms! Protected area policy for PNG

Delighted to see that the policy we developed with UNDP, PNG’s protected area agency (now CEPA) and many stakeholders was passed by the Exective Council. Now the hard work of turning it into laws and making it effective is beginning! WE hope it does some good for conservation in this fantastic country, and for the well-being of the woderful communities, some of whom walked all day to attend Ann and Greg’s workshops.
